The phases
- Basic bounce: bounce in the middle with a tight body and arms helping the lift.
- Stopping and control: stop the bounce on command to stay safe and in control.
- Body shapes: show tuck, pike and straddle in the air and return to straight.
- Rotation and twist awareness: learn where you are in the air before adding saltos or twists.
Before you start
Suits gymnasts who can bounce in the middle of the bed and stop on command; trampoline use should follow your club's supervision rules.
Common mistakes
- Drifting across the bed: unsafe landings near the frame.
- Loose body: energy is lost and positions in the air are unclear.
- Arms not used: lower bounces and poor timing.
- Adding rotation too soon: gymnasts lose orientation.
Coaching cues

Frequently asked questions
Why use the trampoline in gymnastics training?
It gives more time in the air and softer landings, so gymnasts can practice shapes, rotation and air awareness with many repetitions. It supports, but does not replace, practice on floor and other apparatus.
Should beginners do saltos on trampoline?
Only after they bounce under control in the middle and can stop on command, and only with a qualified coach and appropriate safety setup. Build body shapes and basic rotations first.
